So, when’s book 2 coming out?

September 1st, 2022

It feels surreal to have THE IGUANA’S SCROLL out in the world for anyone to read. For so long I’d worked on it as a passion project, asking my family not to tell anyone. But now, everybody in my life is aware of it.

In a way, it’s incredibly liberating. I’ve offered up a piece of my soul for anyone to take a peek and friends and family are starting to do just that. They get to see what I’m passionate about without any layer or curtain in the way, so when they say “congratulations” or “we’re so proud of you”, it really means a lot.

It reminds me a lot of singing. You put yourself out there, wearing your heart on your sleeve, and push past any slivers of self-doubt, hoping that the people around you enjoy what you’re bringing to the table. And so far so good! The launch party we hosted in Charlotte was a big success with loads of folks showing up to share their congratulations. I was really touched. The only snafu of the night was when a breeze whisked the “N” from our L A U N C H balloons into the Charlotte night sky. So we settled for a book L A U C H.

The most frequent question from the night had to have been, “so, when’s NOVA 02 coming out?” Internally, my answer was more often than not the screaming spongebob meme. Externally, however, I consistently promised 6-12 months. Yes, NOVA 01 took 4 years to put together. But those 4 years also included prep work for the whole series, worldbuiliding, industry research, market research, and more. I already have 20k+ words of NOVA 02’s rought draft complete, and the outline is a further 20k words. Would I like to spend 2 years on it? Sure. But all my research has shown that authors that do well need to push out content, content, and then more content. Again, it’s just like singing. If consumers like what I’m bringing to the table, they’re going to ask for an encore or more material. Right now all I can give anyone is a promise for a second book, so it’s on me to give it to them as soon as possible to maintain engagement. Yes some days can be tough. But it’s easy in the long run because I genuinely love the NOVA universe. Oliver García, Emma Griffith, and Lance Wyatt all have ups and downs to experience, and I can’t wait for everyone to enjoy it with me.

As I motor along with NOVA o2’s manuscript, I’ll continue engaging with folks on instagram, reddit, and goodreads! So be sure to post, ping, or message if you’d like to chat. You might say … I’m an open book.

Lastly, I’m delighted to announce I’ve been invited on to the Small Business Safari podcast to join Chris and Alan for a fun conversation about the small business side of being an author! These guys are a riot and I can’t wait to join them in the studio!

The end always arrives.
